Biography:Mr. Michael W. Stever is the Emergency Program Manager for Salt Lake City, Utah. He oversees all aspects of Emergency Management in mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. Mr. Stever also serves as occasional contract instructor/facilitator for the Emergency Management Institute at the National Emergency Training Center in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Mr. Stever has served in leadership positions on the National Board of the Association of Contingency Planners, the Utah Chapter of the Association of Contingency Planners and the Utah Emergency Manager's Association. Prior to employment with Salt Lake City, Mr. Stever served with the State of Utah as State Training Officer, Exercise Training Officer, and most recently, Training Program Manager. Also, Mr. Stever handled the additional duty assignment as Public Information Officer. Mr. Stever's previous Emergency Management employment and adventure experiences include service as Deputy Director of Emergency Services and Director of Public Affairs at the county level; plus a five year stint with a metropolitan police department in all aspects of law enforcement including patrol, plain-clothes assignments, officer survival instructor, and Special Weapons and Tactics Officer. Mr. Stever has a Bachelor of Science degree from Weber State University with a double major in English and Theater Arts with a strong minor in Education. Mr. Stever taught Junior High School for two years. Before pursuing advanced education, Mr. Stever proudly served the nation in the United States Army Special Forces for three overseas assignments including two combat tours in Viet Nam as a communications NCO and medical specialist assigned to conduct unconventional warfare activities. Major Stever retired from active reserve military duty as a company commander for the 19th Special Forces Group of the Utah National Guard. As a former volunteer Certified Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician, Mr. Stever brings a strong background of emergency services and current trends to his emergency management assignments. |
