Presentation Summary:

Green purchasing refers to an organization's efforts to incorporate environmental considerations into its purchasing decisions for supplies, materials, and services. The objective is to reduce the
organization's impact on the natural environment. Recently, Japan has come to be recognized as a global leader in green purchasing.

However, little information on Japanese activities has been available outside of Japan. In this presentation, we will explore Japanese best practices for green purchasing based on the presenter's on-site interviews with leading Japanese organizations and from comprehensive
survey results of over 1,000 Japanese business and governmental organizations. As one aspect of leading practice, we will see how internet-based purchasing systems are used to support green
purchasing.
