Biography:Rick McGurk, C.P.M., was awarded the Gordon Burt Affleck award at the Summer party held in June 2003. The Gordon Burt Affleck award is given on an annual basis to recognize outstanding contribution to the Purchasing and Supply Management profession by NAPM-Utah. Rick has worked in Supply Chain Management for the past 32 years. Following graduation from the University of Utah, he served as a Supply Officer in the Army during the Vietnam conflict, attaining the rank of Captain. Rick has a Bachelor's Degree in French, and Associate Degrees in Business Management and Marketing. He has done post-graduate work toward an MBA at Utah State. For the past twenty-seven years, he has worked in the Purchasing Division of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He has held several positions in the Purchasing Division, including Traffic Manager, Manager of International Coordination, and currently serves as the Manager of Contract Administration and Professional Development. Rick has been a C.P.M. since 1982, and currently holds lifetime status. He is also one of a few Utahns holding the title of Certified Claims Professional in the transportation industry. Rick has conducted numerous seminars throughout the mountain west, the most frequent topic being C.P.M. Exam Preparation. (Many in attendance may have attended some of these.) He has been a seminar leader or guest speaker at NAPM-Orange County, NAPM-Idaho, NAPM-Southwest Wyoming and numerous private firms and government agencies. He was a workshop presenter at the National Convention in Atlanta a few years ago, while serving on NAPM's International Committee. He is also a past board member of NAPM-Utah. Although he loves his work, he does it only to support his fly-fishing habit. Rick has been married for 35 years, is the father of five and the grandfather of 14. |
